what do you think is the affect of length of the chain on chucking?and how do you think it affect on tricking?
i think that the length of the chain really determine the usage of the chain.
something like small cord are better for tricking and long cords are better for actual fighting.
its easier to do tricks with small chain rather than a long chain

actually, for me, in switching between chord size is not a major problem. (except prochux, that it requires different adjustments on your freestyle)
-
I personally dont think the length of chain determines how easy it is to do tricks. It's all about the wielders preference.
-
Need a definition of short/long chains...
-
if you are good you can do tricks with any lenght of chain/cord.

According to my experience, 7-piece chains ( that fit your palm ) are the best for flow and rolls. pro chux are very good for speed and flash while the traditional 10-piece chain are best for attacking but cannot be used effectively for rolls. ( pro chux do pack quite a punch )
Hope it helps.

this is one of me favorite discussions simply because of all of the research i have personally done on cord and chain lengths. i have a system of classification that i use for myself that i like to share with others. (probably not an original system, so i take no credit for it lol )
short - 1/4 in to 3in
medium - 3+in to 6in
long - 6+in
now with short chain / cord, you have more control in swings and aerials, freestyle requires a grip that is lower on the stick.
with medium chain / cord, there is a balance between control, and freestyle usability, as well as medium abilities for combat application
with long chain / cord, you have less control, but there is an immense amount of freedom with freestyle application. the longer connection allows for more rotations for wrist and finger spins (and is perfect for the advanced finger trick, the infinite finger spin) this is obviously the hardest to style to learn, as you have the least amount of control, but when mastered, this style of nunchaku is amazing, watch some spinstorm. he uses a long chain, with shorter sticks.

I agree with Heru and Kuyper. But then again its all about practice right? Maybe even rounding your skills with both......practice.
-
Costs me 4 days (that's a lot of time for me) to get used to and have a whole new set of scars and bruises, each time I change to others length, shorter or longer.

Wellllll.... have you seen SpinStorm yet? :greendude: :greendude: :greendude:

Well, some people DO possess skill at the longer chux, but I tried to give advice to the majority of people. You cant expect someone to back flip just because someone else can do it. :smoke:

Agree with RU486! :respect:

I like chain and cord, for me a chain is a bit more uncontrollable as each link needs to be pulled taught in order for it to affect the next where as string is a continuous entity (i.e. one end directly affects the other) so is more controllable. Length is 3.25 inches for my freestyle but for my self defence pair I have a shorter stick (portability) with a longer cord/chain. Horses for courses and each to their own :thumb:

Heru's post was a perfect explaination, very detailed. Kuyper's too, it's about personal preference for how you like to chuck. I don't think much else needs to be said... we've been over this just too much. :lmfao:
