well i saw the Manchester meet is happening but what about those of us across the pond. im just wondering where would be a good place. where do the US people live and how far are they willing to travel. im up for going anywhere just so long as a nice sized group gets together. i know ken and rc live in NE so that might be a good center ground to meet. what are your thoughts?
-
:arg :arg :arg but   because of :tick2:
-
Sure wish I had the means of travel for a awesome US meetup :( :( :( now I go   and :doh :bleed afterwards ill go :hide:

-
With a laptop at each end & decent webcams we could link worldwide meets! :2thumbsup:

We had a meetup in front of damiens house over a year ago in culver city ca. everbody showed up except for chuck nastys punk ass
-
I have a friend from Texas, L.A. and Las Vegas.. I can stay there, but prefeb. texas.... that is, if i'm totally free from my contracts(or there's a job offer in U.S. ^^ in exchange from here)
-
have one in indiana :hide:
-
USA is way too broad. I dont think there would be too many ppl willing to travel crosscoast for a meetup, not because of disinterest, Its just not in the funds right now.
American meetups would have to be split up by area, or at least time zones (for now).
I live in New Jersey and have often pondered a Tri-state meetup, knowing there are fellow chuckers on this board that live in NY and PA.
An East coast meetup would be sick. West coast ,dirty south etc......
-
yeah its kinda hard to do in the us, if only we had bullet trains all over..... sigh.
-
ken and i have already talked about such an event in nebraska. if you want to go there next year, qwerty, i will be going as well. my plan to head there was between summer and winter quarter (so like mid sept '10) would be cool to even have just the 4 of us.
-
im definatly down for that. that's what im talking bout.
-
ok so we have a base amount of ppl. lets just recruit from there. derek, get the crew together. i know you still have some pull with the homies. and yeti, we need you man. if you would come we could make this a really historic meet.
-
jacksonville florida maybe?
-
jacksonville florida maybe?
HA! you gonna pay for me to go across the us? nebraska is in the center of the us, and would be a very logical choice for a usa wide meet. think of it like this, sure you have to go a bit of distance, but nothing farther than i would. you have almost a year, if people can start making plans now, there would be no reason not to be able to show up....
-
save a couple bucks a day or like 20 a paycheck and youll have something reasonable saved up by then.
-
Cool one Qwerty :thumb:
You really are licking fingers for a chux-gathering.... I love this idea... it really gets the community together!! :2thumbsup:
And for the US-guys: It would be best for learning from each other!!!
Keep this plan up, work on it and IT WILL HAPPEN!!! :clap:chuck: :chuck: :chuck: :chuck: :gogogo

jacksonville florida maybe?
Chi-town! 8-)
-
If we do put this together Ill definitely be coming. Wherever it is.
Ive always wantd to go to Jacksonville. Chicago is an awesome city too. We can always do it in Omaha, Nebraska. Soulwire and I both live here.
-
This meetup will be INSANE :whahaa :whahaa
:respect: to all
-
im going to pensacola FL for thanksgiving is that far from jacksonville.
-
ok i dont care too much i guess, lets try and keep it towards the center of the us...
-
i'm in for nebraska :thumb: i could always take a greyhound bus or maybe even make a little roadtrip out of it 8-)
-
Yes, we tried to have a Nebraska meet up a couple of months ago but the timing wasn't right.
Let's go for it again! We've got plenty of time to create a big gathering. I've got a PA system and we can jam out! :thumb:

It would be awesome if you could come sis :thumb:
Wow.. in U.S., if ever, i could have a chance.. hopefully.. depends on the situation..
-
for me it depends on when it is, i cant do any traveling until next summer, and even then i have a lot planned, but not to the point where i kno exact dates :P
the sooner i can get this pinned down on the calendar, the better :thumb:
-
i think mid september..... a 3 day event starting friday the 17th untill sunday the 19th 2010..... how does that sound?
-
Sounds good to me. Soulwire and I can start working on the details tomorrow. If we all decide on Nebraska. I will make sure Lee is here even if I have to pay for his plane ticket. We cant have a gathering without him.
-
this would be legendary if lee came out. and of course we gotts see if mike wants to come. and psi it would be phenomenal if you could come out.

hmmmm i might be missing a few days from school, and thats kind of important :|
late summmer would probably be easier for me, but whatever the date is, i will try to make it :-)
-
I still think Oklahoma is more centrally located than Nebraska, and not as crowded
-
I'd vote for a little earlier as well! The date Heru proposed would actually be on my 33rd bday and I might not even be in town. :)
End of summer would be a perfect ending. Let's decide a solid date!
-

Nah, cant come to Oklahoma. To many Sooners fans. Im from Nebraska lol Howd you like that game Mike. First time we beat you guys in years.

Atlanta, Georgia state ?
Dont slap me (http://emo.huhiho.com/set/yoyocici/179.gif), I will definitely be at USA, so I up an Idea...
-
If it's a year out... I really think I could make it from Michigan. I don't know any other chuckers in my area but maybe we could meet up along the way and carpool... What about places to stay, places to chuck, food and other logistics? I'm down for Neb because I've never been there.

hehe thats where i live.
-
ok lets shoot for late september then. and we really need to find a central usa place we can all agree on. i dont care where in the central us, but i really think that by having the meet in the center of the states, more people would be able to come, myself included. i live in washington, on the west coast. a drive to somewhere in the southeast corner of the states is not very practical for the west coast ppl, just as having the meet on the west side would pretty much be to the exclusion of east coast peeps. if we can get in the center of the states, well yea, you have head this argument from me this whole thread. i am not voting that we have the meet in washington, so lets put out compromising hats on and find a cool place to all meet. it seems like we have a decent amount of interest. if we can get a date and a place in stone, we could start to really build a good meet.
-
No meet-ups for me.. I love in California :x All I can do is :doh
-
Lebanon, Kansas - Geographical Center of the 48 States..... whoever lives closest to this point would best to :chuck:
For the date I would check the farmers almanac weather.... And whatever state has the highest alcohol content brings the beer:-P
-
Maybe if you could find a place to sleep, can help more, so people wont be worry about the night. and it will be just a matter of when
-
i was going to get a hotel for myself and ashley, i assume others will do the same.
-
once we have a location we can have a hotel to meet up at i supose.

lets all converge on lebanon!!!!

Omaha, NE is not too far away from Lebanon, KS. We already have chuckers there in Omaha that know there way around, know the best places to stay, maybe know a good place to chuck, food, ect. Lebanon looks like its a small town in the middle of no-where (not to offend the people of Lebanon but...). I vote for Omaha!
-
Yes, me & RC are here in Omaha. I vote for Omaha as well. :thumb: We've also know of places to spin around here (outside or inside) and I have a small place but could probably fit a couple of people here. Also, Flowpulse (nunchaku) school happens every Thursday night. It'd be cool to have some "guest" spinners come in. I have some locations/people for fire spinning/drum circles as well. Spinning to drummers is a blast!
-
okay ive been looking at travel prices for myself, and found out a round trip airplane ticket from DC to Omaha would set me back about $280. :-o
not to mention food, and maybe hotel prices :P this looks like its going to be harder for me than i thought...
could i maybe crash at someone's place for the event? i'd cook breakfast :-D

just to clarify on that offer, i would be telling my parents where i'm staying, and they would have to approve of the person and the place, and i am currently keeping them updated on the details of this whole event :-)
and they are paying for some of it, so i have to be responsible and stuff like that :thumb:

$280...before or after taxes? Most don't include taxes in the price (Usually about $30)...but don't dispair. Read on...
Flight tips:
So I've become kind of a flight guru because my GF lives about a thousand miles away and I've spent much of this year planning and flying about.
If you reserve too far ahead, it will cost more. If you reserve about a month in advance, you'll get some of the best prices. It's more expensive to return on a Sunday. I've found that Onetravel.com has some of the best prices. Be careful when you book it though, as most companies can become sticklers about changing *anything* once it's booked. Onetravel also usually has coupons where you can take $10 off the flight. Do an online google search for online coupons for whatever website you book from.
I did a sample test flight (for Jan) and got the price down to about $230 (after taxes and a $10 coupon). Don't reserve plane tickets soon...as you get overcharged for booking too soon and too far in advance. You have other airports too..I didn't check all of them. Some airports will be significantly priced so check all surrounding airports (example over here is if someone flew to the airport that is next to Omaha--- Lincoln, it adds about $50-$100)
Hope that helps too!
-
I may go to the meet up, long as it doesn't turn into a promotional event lol.... you have to be careful with those things, sponsorship can produce cult followings, they are more like cult engines — they depend on you as their fuel and source of energy. I can not support those who promote their products or their methods... no offense to the sponsors or anyone on this site lol... it's just I've been down that road before.... but anyway it would be cool to meet everyone.
Lebanon looks like its a small town in the middle of no-where (not to offend the people of Lebanon but...). I vote for Omaha!
I don't think anyone here is from Lebanon, KS lol.... though a visit to see the center of the continental states seems interesting to me :)..... it would be on my way, that is if Omaha is the meet up place.

i dont really think we have any sponsers lol. and please do come camo id love too see you spin in person, gotta lot to learn from everyone.
-
Cult followings? Sponsorship? product promotion? This is still nunchaku spinning that we're talking about??
If it's because I mentioned the word "Flowpulse" -- no worries there. It's just a name that I get when I tap into the feeling of spinning and being alive in that present moment. It's just a name. I think we just all want to meet up and spin together. Knowledge shared. If there's anything I want, it's to learn better digit rolls from you digit'ers!
-
im bringing all sorts of toys, not just nunchaku but staffs canes poi contact juggle balls all sorts of mallarky. oh and all that want to try fire for the first time feel free to use my chucks. i got 4 pairs now. this meeting is a dream which will oneday become reality.
-
This is gonna be sick. Im gonna ask my instructor if we can use the dojo. I dont think it'll be a problem.
-
Fire! Droool...
I'd be more than happy to share my fire gear as well.
Fire: 16" double wick chucks, Two 16" fire torches, 2 12" fire chucks, 5' double wide wick fire staff, 4' fire staff, cannonball fire poi

lol no... I'm all for freechaku or freestyle nunchaku..... I've seen meetups like this turn into "cult followings, sponsorship, product promotion" give it time and it will... hell the WC is already that way lol.
sponsors can be a good thing...... or bad, they can lure in more people, take all your money or both lol.
but yeah like to see you and everyone spin in person too.... I just don't want to come home broke:P

I´m sorry, but the worl cup is not that way. We have sponsors, in order to make more people join, for free, into freechaku. The stores get more know into the freechaku community, and people can choose what ever they want. We have never said that to join you must have a special nunchaku. We even have a DIY section to promote DIY nunchakus!
We haven´t made any competition that involves having to pay to someone, and we haven´t made any competition were you need to have a special item from a certain store to participate.
All the people here have buy their nunchaku because they want to. Not because someone has force them to do it.

Must be a language barrier jm lol.... but yes the world cup is that way, most sponsors have a basis for existing, it's money! They know what you like, they don't have to force you or anyone, it's the carrot on the stick that everyone wants and buys, cults work in the same way lol, it's logistics.
You can't tell me sorry because I am right lol, I was just poking fun at sponsors, but it's the truth..... They know your weakness, if a nice looking pair of nunchaku is thrown in front of your face, you might buy them! ....thus you be broke. :greendude:

i dont see the sponsership we are seeing as a problem. it would be a problem if we had to put logos in all our videos or something, but its not like that. they donate the prizes and at the same time get exposure in a community that values them. and i thank them for that. i can see what your saying about it possibly getting out of hand, just imagine mcdonalds and coke logos on our chucks. lol.
like the X games used to be a sporting event now you have the vast commercialization. like instant replays brought to you by pepsi.
this looks as though it might get offtopic though. im pretty sure we wont have any sponsorship or the like at the meetup.
-
hmm.. try start promoting a fund raising program.. I just wonder what?..
-
Well I'm excited! Um, are we sticking with September? What weekend? This is going to be awesome!
-
Anytime works for me. Fortunately its far enough in advance that we can get some proper organization done. I would also like to see some of our International friends attend.

OMG yess it was a big help, thank u sooo much :respect:
i've been talking to my parents and, as much as they support my nunchucking, they expressed that they would not appreciate my missing school for a meet :P
is there any chance we could do this meet in early/mid august?
-
They know your weakness, if a nice looking pair of nunchaku is thrown in front of your face, you might buy them! ....thus you be broke. :greendude:
thats why i have a pair of flowtoys and woodalls. both $100+ each. but boy are they pretty :arg
i am out of school from august 20th to sept 20th. anytime in there ok with peeps?
-
any time in aug or sept is good for me. I'll skip school for this! :smoke:
-

lol Heru, yeah you know what I'm talking about..... :)
Any dates yet? I gotta know in advanced, gotta save money in case those cult sponsors show up...:P
And talk to my boss into letting me go... :hide:
-
this sounds great. i have a rural home in north east tennessee, that would be bout mid east coast. awesome natural settings for vid and pratice. or i'm willing to drive a ways as well.
-
This is so sick. We need to set a date in stone soon so people can arrange their schedules. the large consensus seems like September.
ill make a poll
http://www.freestyleforum.net/index.php?topic=10858.0
oh and Sensei Bardin said he would be coming "hell or high water"!
-
I think a vote would be a wise move qwerty. I will leave making the poll up to you if you are ok with it.
-
I will be there one way or another.
-
Rich
Isa there any way to tie this in with some skateboard show that sponsors could get involved and local news. Big nunchaku meeting with onternational celebritys performing some radical nunchaku demonstrations and fire and blacklight shows. Skateboarding and badass chuking go together.
-
Posting from my phone does look so good after the fact.

this leads me to think...... Rich have you ever skate chucked :whahaa
-
Sept fine with me rich! Get your UFO ready
-
Let me see what I can do. I might be able to get a nice press release written up for our local newspapers as well! :thumb:
Rich... When the time draws nearer, we should sit down over some coffee and write up a battle plan for the best places to spin around here... Since we know the city quite well.
I might be able to cram a couple people at my place too.
By the way...I definitely think some nunchaku fire spinning is in order. ;) I can't wait! Be sure to bring cameras...
-

Yeah bro Ive done some chucking while skating. I like shoulder passes while doing manuels. Definitely fun!

Rich... Ever spun at Elmwood park? It's a cool place to spin... spin fire there every so often. When the time draws nearer, we should sit down over some coffee and write up a battle plan for the best places to spin around here...

Ken. We seriously need to get together man. Xmas has been incredible for my shop, but its taking a toll on my time schedule. It would be cool to get some lunch one day and start going over some stuff. Elmwood would definitely be a great spot, plus Im pretty sure my sensei will let us use his dojo (its next door to my shop) Ill ask him at class Wed. The park downtown would be killer too. If you right something for the papers let me know, and Ill try to do the same. I know a guy at the READER from when we did our advertising with them. Plus my best friend promotes all kinds of shows, so I know we can definitely get the word out.. We also need to meet up and do some filming. My schedule is jam packed this week, but Ill give you a call sometime and see which day works best for you.
Lee Barden and the Aerialist are must haves...
Lee, we will get you here one way or another. I have plenty of time to figure it out, the dojo next door might be interested in a seminar even. I was swinging chucks with him on Saturday night. He loved the Proditionals.
-
Skateboarding and badass chuking go together.
I would own 2 pairs in every color if this was a T-shirt :tmnt:
-
i might be able to come.
depending exactly where it is.
my parents would probably go for it if its close enough :)
-
Yeah bro Ive done some chucking while skating. I like shoulder passes while doing manuels. Definitely fun!
I've done it before.. trying to do tricks on both at the same time ^^ very confusing
-
I'll be doing an interview soon (Jan) and will try to mention this meet up. Should be killer! Enthralled that so many greats are all going to be at the same place. Let me know however I might be able to assist.
Especially with the upcoming spring/summer-- I'll be doing a ton of fire spinning and getting the word out. Think we can build a momentum, especially if Lee attends.
Meeting everyone in person...well that would just be incredible. Freestyle nunchaku is still quite underground (especially compared to poi). It will be awesome to get a group together and do this.
-
Hey RC
Just for curiousity, what are the laws there regarding chucks?
-
Hey RC
Just for curiousity, what are the laws there regarding chucks?
i was wondering the same thing.
i know its not illegal where i live...
but ive never looked at the laws about practicing outside or any of that.

When I fly I pack 30 sometimes more Chux in my check-on baggage. I got this from KVG. I put a letter in there about my Profession/Hobby, I thank them for keeping me safe and understand they have a job to do, and ask that after they're done with the inspection to please secure my bag back securely. Have never had a problem. Boston is one of the worse and I have never had anything questioned. The bag was checked sometimes, but put back.
-
They are legal to carry and posses in Omaha, but Its always good to have them in a case and keep them visible while traveling. We have stores all over that sell them. I have never been bothered for swinging chucks in public either. We have tons of good spots for chucking also.
Ken and I were talking tonight, and we came up with some good ideas and activities for the meet.
1. As much filming as possible
-Instructional Video - All artists will be shot with the same camera and same backround.
-Performance Video - All artists will be shot with the same camera.
2. Live Labs
- If everyone comes to the meet with something new to teach then we will all learn something. This is a golden opportunity to fine tune your training and get advice from some of the best.
3. Workshops
-Lee Barden?
4. Live Challenges
5. Live Battles!
Keep the ideas flowing guys. If theres any footage of the UK meetup I would really like to see it. Its not everyday you have Matt, Chris, and Sam in the same room together. Not to mention other insane British artists.

Yeah! haha, can you imagine when everyone leaves. Airport security will find what..like 15-20 (or however many show) bags full of chucks. Hahaha. :lmfao: At our renaissance fairs, I've seen them sell chucks to the kids so that's a good sign.
When I pack up(I frequent New Jersey), I'll put my fire gear in a box and tape "Juggling gear" on the outside of it.
As for legality, I've spun at parks all around Omaha and never been stopped. We're full of nice people around here (for the most part). I've spun fire at the park as well. I think the general rule is that you just don't look like this: :omg: or this :tmnt: (reckless or combative).
It seems like a strong sense of community happens when you gather a group of dedicated individuals together. I'm truly looking forward to all that I can learn from everyone. :-)
I just got a HD camera and will be taking massive amounts of movies...would love chucks to explode like poi has. Think we are all the front line in making that happen.

This is gonna be incredible . Its awesome that we have so much time to prepare. Maybe that will allow our non US friends enough time to make it here. Oz and Jose should find a way up here for sure.
Maybe Lee can convince Wally to come up with the cameras!!

Omaha = very nice people. :)

oh and from the poll it looks like late august or early september is the best bet. lets try to get a date etched in stone ASAP so we can make plans.
This MUST happen!
-
I would love to be there, I have family in Council Bluffs nearby where I can stay, only a 9 hour drive to Omaha from Denver!
-
I pretty sure we did set a date in stone (on the usa meet up poll thread) Sept. 3-5th... It seemed to work with everyone. every other weekend had people dropping out for prior engagements. SO... MARK YOUR CALENDARS LADIES AND GENTS: USA MEET UP SEPT. 3-5th
