Title: Detachable Nunchaku (useful for travelling)
Post by: power13 on January 24, 2008, 05:46:46 AM
Useful for you to carry when you travel and in areas where nunchaku is illegal

I got the idea from this site
http://www.beastick.com/id15.html

And I'm sorry I'm too lazy to resize the image (I drew that btw)

I'm thinking of making some like those. However, I wonder if the union of the rope in the middle puts any particular stress on that point. In other words, does the rope last less this way?

If they were loose ends tied together then it would create a weak point, but as it is the rope should last just as long if you tied them traditionally. The only drawback I can tell is that if for some reason a rope breaks then you can't use them until you repair them, unlike traditional which is commonly wound around several times so that if one breaks it is not necessary to repair it right away.

Good point, I've also seen some types of Nunchakus like that.
It's less dangerous but you still could get arrested, depends on the law enforcers  :-)

True, but strictly speaking you should record ones which have broken immediatly, even if they do have the tradition cording method. It's just not all that clever to swing a set of chucks when you know there is a high chance they're going to fly off.

while i was pondering over the supplies i needed to buy to make this, i came over a little improvement in your design.
first, drill the top hole about 1 1/2 inches deep. then drill the side hole 1 inch from the top, so the top hole goes down further than the side hole. do this for both batons. then take your loops, and push them into the top holes, so that the end of the loop is pushed all the way down, so when you look through the side holes, you cant see anything. now you might be asking "what about the sides of the loop looking through the side hole?". well my answer is simple. make the top hole wider than the side hole. the whole objective here is to make it so when the loop is in, and you look through the side hole, you dont see it. the reason for that leads to my improvemtent. instead of using a screw, which could rattle abound, or possibly hit you and cause injury, buy a thin wooden dowel that is the exact same diameter as  the side hole. cut the dowel into small sections equaling the diameter of the baton.  force the pieces into the side hole. then, just sand it to contour to the dowel's curve, and youve got safe, better looking detachable nunchaku!!!!!  :happy-firey:

feel free to ask me if you are uncertain about anything i just said.   :line:

well i see no one saw my posts yet.... :hide:  But made a pair (2), one broke, so now i only have one nunchaku (still both sticks), and i love them. the knot has no negetive effect, and acts almost like a balancing/pivot/turnabout point.
if anyone sees this post, and is interested to learn how to make them, or how they are, post a reply, and i will be glad to help. Making them takes about 5 good hours, and about $10, the part that takes the longest is making the loops just the right size so that when you attach them, the connection is the length you want. overall, it is best to make them than pay about $60 at the beastick online store. :thumb:

me too hihi that's cool and it seems easy to make... but i think that it's illegal: not like nunchaku, but like sticks hihi  (excuse me, i've a language question: nunchaku is singular or plural? o.0)
