Title: need help tying this. cord to chain link.
Post by: beverchakus on June 11, 2009, 09:49:05 AM
Anyone have a better way to tie this? so it is more secure, and maybe without a massive knot in the way? or something that just looks cleaner.

i can come up with: sewing it + electrical tape over or gluing it + electrical tape. this should make it less knotty (or naughty :-D)

i'll give it some more thought...

peace!

Sew the cords together with nylon thread but dont leave any exposed. maybe just a small touch of super-glue along the seams and end of the thread afterwards.

I understand you want very much to stay with this particular nunchaku, right?
I would take of all metallic parts except the cover, then instead of bearing placed sick plastic disk with the hole in the center, made a loop with the rope and hided the knot inside of the metallic cover behind plastic disk.

if you want the drawing just send me in private your email. I still have no permissions or something to post images here...

You've just got to post them right. like this [ img ] URL HERE [ / img] with no spaces.

and that would require him to take the pins out.. which is next to impossible with some pins and easy with others.

Tried this. With no spaces of course. Still doesn't show. It is about permissions, I think.

edit-Heru418: i got it to work. it had nothing to do with permission. i went to the original url and right-clicked then clicked on view image. the url that you get from "view image" is the one that will work

It's not an account or permission problem, I tried posting your image as always and can't either... I also tried to post an image of my own and did it with no problem, maybe it's because of the site you're hosting your image... you can try photobucket or some other ....

here's your pic...

yeah its not the easiest way, but if you leave the thread exposed it will wear down very quickly.

Id go with matt's idea,  A heavy duty nylon thread is definatly the strongest your going to find, definatly use superglue too though if any threads are exposed. It will give it another layer to go through before wearing at the thread  :thumb:

Not just any nylon. parachute cord.

are you suggesting he stitch with a parachute cord? Those are just as thick as his chuck cord..

Thread and cord are way different
Most pics of it on the net are the weak stuff.. something like this where you cant actually see its weave, and it almost looks shiny is what may be best, a lot of yachty people buy this for repairing things like heavy covers. Its also good for leather.

there is no restrictions of that sort. you do not have to have permission of any type to post images and it was not a bug that prevented it either. see my edit to your post for a reason why your attempt did not work. after a while you will get used to posting pics. i know lee still tries to use the embed code to post vids    :thumb:

Id go with matt's idea, i work with.. (how do i say this without it sounding lame..) haberdashery (sewing, craft, mending etc, amoungst other stuff) A heavy duty nylon thread is definatly the strongest your going to find, definatly use superglue too though if any threads are exposed. It will give it another layer to go through before wearing at the thread  :thumb:

I thought haberdashery was making and mending shoes.

If your main concern is to secure the knot, I have found the best way, is to take a lighter and heat up the frayed ends of the knot so they begin to melt. If it starts to catch fire, quickly blow it out. Then quickly, before it hardens, take the side of a butter knife and squash the melted end down against the knot so it flatens like a mushroom. Take care not to burn the knot itself when melting the ends. After the ends cool, you are left with a hard little nub that will prevent the ends from slipping through.  Remember to do one end at a time.

This method only works with nylon cord/boot laces. Regular rope or cord will just burn to ashes. But Nylon Cord will melt and then become hard like plastic after it cools. I have been using this method on cord chucks for 30 years and have never had a knot slip once in all that time!

No great ideas for the cosmetic issues. Only thing I can think of would be to use a metal crimp to fasten the two cord ends together. Years ago I purchased a pair of chucks that were fastened in this manner.
Hope this helps.  :-)
