Hi everyone, i’m new to this forum (and to freestyle chucking). Yesterday i decided to build a new nunchaku for practicing (before this i use  a broomstick chuck) made from aluminum & wood so here’s some pics of it:

I originally build this using a couple of aluminum pipes only, connected with a cheap dog chain. However, the pipes would be easily bent because it’s hollow so i decided to fill them with wooden sticks so here’s the result:

As you can see the sticks fit perfectly inside the pipes, it won’t come out even after hours of rigorous use. The sticks add some weight and increase its durability, although it’s kinda heavy... Total weight is about 250 grams.

To reduce friction between the chain & the bolts i put a piece of ballpoint core to cover the bolts and it also prevents the chain from swaying back & forth too!

The rings on the chain is actually part of the chain itself when i bought it, so i didn’t bother to remove them AND it can be used to hang teh chuck too!

Specs:
Pipe length = 30 cm
Chain length = 12 cm
Total weight = 250 grams
Time to build = 2 hours
Total cost = $0.20 (all materials except for the chain i got them for free ;))

UPDATE: ROPED NUNCHAKU

This is what i made about a week ago, this one is pretty much like previous nunchaku, but i use rope instead of chain.

This is what the bottle cap thing looks like when disassembled:

The wooden caps prevent the rope from touching the sharp edge of the upper part of the aluminum pipe, so the rope will last longer (without those the rope broke after 2 hours of use :doh).

Nice job getting wood that fits perfectly into the pipes. Do the rings get in the way during use?

Nope, at least until now i can use this chuck without any problem at all except it's kinda heavy... Probably because i still need some time to get used to the weight

what you could have done is placed the wood in the lower half, or maybe drilled a large hole in the top of it (near the chain) with a wood boring drill bit (assuming you have one) that way it stays rigid and remains lighter.

however i made some chucks from thin aluminium and the only problem ive really had with bending is when ive been striking alot and then its just the ends getting misshaped (the pipe is so delicate it got crushed when i placed it in the vice!) im probably gonna stuff some wood in the ends to prevent that and add some more weight.

but a nice chucks and you can remember what you like, didnt liek etc for if you make another pair =)

Hey, that's a good idea! I'll try it for my next chuck

Beautiful! Time to make some modifications to my aluminum chucks. :ninja:

Do the rings make a "jingling" sound like the Chinese-style chucks? I know they have something inside the stick to add to that, but it'd still be a cool effect.

I can't say if it's jingling like chinese chuck or not because i've never used such chuck before but it does makes more noise than regular chained chuck and yes it's cool! :-D

I'm guessing that they wouldn't. The rings on these serve as chain links, while the Chinese nunchaku rings are not part of the chain but go around it, making them free to move and jingle.

On the contrary, look at the last pic in the op. The rings are separate from the connecting portion of the chain.
