Hi everybody,

I'm gonna build my first pair of D.I.Y. chucks, but I can't decide how long the cord should be. I've heard a short cord is best for spinning and freestyle in general, is it true? Can anybody give me a hint?

Thanks & best regards to everybody here - keep up the good work

Normally the shorter the rope is, the better control you have.

I will said, make first the rope the size of your hand... spin some days, then make it longer, spin some days, then shorter, and spin some days... and after that you will know what fit you best.

Remember that for freestyle, the best is how you feel the nunchaku, so try as much as you can with variations  :thumb:

Definitely good advice.  Basically, having it about 4 inches(the width of your wrist plus or minus a little) is the best balanced setup, as shortening or lengthening your cord will make it better for certain moves, but worse for others.  For example, a shorter cord would make your movements quicker, because you have to exert less pull before the stick's movement is affected, but it'd be more difficult to do hand or wrist rolls because you wouldn't have enough cord to comfortably encircle your wrist.  After a while you adjust to it, and it doesn't matter anymore, but it's just a matter of preference.  I'd say try it around traditional width and then play with it a little as time goes on.  Besides, the magic of DIYs is that you can't make just one.
