Here is a picture of my cutom made 11" freestyle nunchaku or "WHIP CHUX"

Top View:

Bottom View:

And this is the disassembled view when I changed out those ratty cords after 3 yrs of rigorous use.  These nunchaku are old, but they are the best I ever used.  They'd better be because they are my design.  You can see all the niks and dents on them.  They are even slightly bent from practicing striking various materials a long time ago.

I can give specs if anybody wants them.

Really nice idea
I like them  :-D

Is there any sense for not-taping the middle part beside the look?

For me, it gives another stimulus to my senses as to where I am grasping nunchaku.  The leather taped areas is where two important grips are located.

And yes, it shows some of the flashy metalic sheen.

So is this how your chucks always seem to make that whipping sound when you use them? Thats a good idea!

Yep.  The faster you go the louder and higher pitched the sound.  Also you can hear, in addition to feeling, when you have executed proper whipping technique.

However, aerialist insists on discreditinig my nunchaku.  :-(

That's cool.  I'll try to come up with something.  I initially designed them on autocad for an engineering class I was taking at the time.  You or someone you know will need the right metal working tools to make them.  I gave someone my specs and had him fabricate the metal shafts for me.  Then anyone can finish the rest.

I wish I still had the initial autocad drawings.  But they have been lost long ago. :|

It may seem like I don't sleep.  Lately,  I just leave my computer connected most of the time.  Plus I just got back from the Middle East on deployment, so the Air Force gave me 3 weeks to recover.  So, I've just been doing whatever I want whenever I want.  I love it. 8-)

I'll give the specs soon.

Peace.

I can give specs if anybody wants them.

.... hmmmmm, that metal is too dull for chrome plate ....
.... too green for aluminium
.... and too bright for mild steel.
.... Could be stainless steel, true ....
.... or just maybe it's an altogether more exotic alloy.
.... perhaps a spare part of something high-tech ....

.......... I just got back from the Middle East on deployment, so the Air Force gave me 3 weeks to recover

.... hang on a min ....

LOL :-D  That's pretty funny, chiral.

But they are just regular old aluminium stock.

There are those in my career field that actually work on the F-117 stealth fighter.  I however am currently involved in the Airborne Laser (ABL) Project.  You can check that out on the web, its a pretty cool concept, however it's executing the concept in reality that's the problem.

By the way, have you had a chance to look over the debate aerialist and I are having in Member Announcements about cord vs chain and tapered vs non-tapered nunchaku?  I'd appreciate your thoughts there.

Indeed I have scanned that debate.

"A" is a little, let's say, "a- retentive" about nunchaku. Me, I'm more liberal on the issue.

Take for insatnce Gavelepo :

His chucks, according to aerialist would be  too light, too thin and too short in link. I'd simply point out that the chucks have produced a style that would probably never have emerged with a 500g, 12", 7-link, bb head tapered chuck.

Or take Robnunchucks :

Robs chucks are long because he does a lot of fire juggling. In fact they are far too long, loo thin and untappered to suit aerialist. I'd just say : but look at the result!

Similarly I have found benefits from using heavy chucks, light chuck, long cord, short cord, long stick, short stick, rope and chain. They all allow one to explore different aspects. Some, especially those who have invested a great deal of time using one type of chuck, might call use of different chucks to produce different tricks "cheating", but to my mind, seeing as this is "freestyle" we should embrace the variety this brings. As the French say "vive la difference!"

More specifically, your grasp of physics means you don't need me weighing in on that thread.

Interesting, you seem over qualified to be jarhead type in the army. You did R&D in Middle East? Why not stay in the comfort of US to do that? Jus curious?

I've always wanted to know and wonder if you can share with us your training regime so for those here who do it for freestyle only can also do some work out to keep body intact for potential self defence purposes ;)

BTW, also- what weapons have you been taught? I play wargames and although not the same as a real weapon obviously, thought I'd share that I've used an AK-47, P226, MC51 and this American cool lookin gun that never got opted probably cos it's too expensive or something. While I'm typing, thought I'd mention that I just passed me motor bike Exam today too- AWESOME

Chiral,

thanks for reviewing it. I thought it would be better to have other's thoughts on the issue.  I'm just glad you didin't find any major discrepancies in my physics.  It's been a while since I applied my knowledge of dynamics.

I was tasked to do security in the desert because the Air Force is doing a lot of what the Army does now, since we're spread kind of thin now because of the stupid war and all.  It really sucked.

Alright. I just do what I can to stay healthy.  Health is my main goal.  I am a Physical Training Leader for the Air Force, so I do have to set a good example for the rest of the AF.  And i suppose that overall good physcal condition is ideal for self defence.
So here is what I do, lately I've been slacking a bit since I got back from the desert:

Cardio is very important, and for that I run 4-6 miles, 3-5 days per week

Weight training not only makes you stronger but also increases and maintains bone density: for this I lift  free-weights 3-5 day per week.  The lifting methods I use are to increase strength, not mass.  ALso, I include body weight excersises here such as push ups, pull ups etc.

Flexibility is important, especially of the spine in my opinion:  for this I do yoga 3 days per week.  Yoga also supplements all my other workouts, especially strength training and core strength development.  Core strength is also very important, it keeps people from developing back pain and makes you less suseptable to injury.  Yoga also helps out balance.  Oh and core strength also allows you to execute stronger strikes.

Nunchaku training whenever I have a chance. this increases upper body indurance,  coordination etc.

That's about it.

My favorite excersises include:  Weighted Pull-ups,weighted dips, hand stand push-ups,  dumb-bell bench press, and nunchucking of course.

I hope this is what you wanted. :|

Peace.
