Help with element bending

Since metal IS an element, I need to be a metal bender.

Well, no, not this guy...


What I basically want to do is bend a metal pipe end to make it look like this (first pic):



Any thoughts on this?

I know that you can bend/round the edges with heavy machines, and I think I saw a post about that in the last few days, but I can't find it.

Would be great to find a way to round the edges.

find a machine shop, they cater bolt threading using a bolt threading machine. its ultra cheap for the service(in the Philippines). they can also un-thread the bolt and round the head for you.



its works like, the item is clamped in a rotating machine and a stronger metal edge will be steer down and blade it from that edge cylindrically while rotating. to make the metal roundedly smooth, its too hot since two metal is biting each other so they water it time to time

The issue is that I was looking for a way to do that in house

oh haha! i see!! try learning blacksmith. that's hot! ^^ hahaha my brother used to forge hammer. you need a fire(or torch), a heat proof gloves, and a hammer and an anvil. and a grinder

I don't think the end of that  pipe is bent, I believe it had a cap welded on the end, then it was polished smooth.

You could try like what i did, cut a little groove around near the edge using a hacksaw, then hammer it at 45^o angle litle by little until it is finally bent

Seems to be the best way to do it at home... I guess I'll give it a try

That looks extremely smooth... might be an option... But it could take me 2 days and a helluva lot of patience

Just got an idea... Might go with a double swivel and use a screw to hold it (the classic way):

What type of swivel are these? where can these be bought? they look strong.

Some bags, backpacks and binders have this connection, but i honestly dont know what kind of store you must search for it.
I hope other member can help you.

A double swivel is fairly easy to come by in most "real hardware" stores (and I don't mean Home Depot, try the local store that caters to the construction/manufacturing community). It would be best to use stainless steel, but a zinc chromite would work pretty good also. Just a thought, pet stores carry these as part of a dog cable run type setup also.
