Well, I'm not a pro, but I'm here, chukin' around.

I agree with Marcus Patricius, for the newbies like me, is pretty cool and motivating every time I have the chance to share a word with the pros of FnF.

The members that are active on the forum have changed alot since I joined FNF.  Many veteran members surface only during the World Cup and the Chuck Off. But many have simply disappeared. Most of the old "pros" of FNF have not posted here in a long time.

Freestyle Nunchuck is a pretty unique hobby / sport / passion. Unlike football or skateboarding, nunchucks are not very socially accepted ( at least not in the U.S.).  Many people either laugh at it, or are afraid of it.  I get alot of Bruce Lee jokes, or they are worried they will get hit by the spinning chucks. Freestyle gets very little respect.

Some people join the forum with lots of enthusiasm, but get bored or frustrated quickly, and fade away. Others, I suspect, have taken Freestyle as far as they feel they want to, and move-on to different persuits. Freestyle can be a hard discipline to remain commited to.

But, as old members become inactive, new members join and  bring new life to this forum. New blood, new ideas, and new enthusiasm.
YOU are now what keeps freestyle alive.

thank you Marcus for the compliments freestyle is growing but it will take  a few years still. Milwaukee is correct here in the US they make it
very difficult for us to explore the sport for what it is. Cops make a point to arrest people and make examples of them here for just carrying nunchucks.

and if anyone ever drops 1 stick they have the right to shoot you on site even if your way across the street. so we practice at home because not many teach the
art in a martial arts school without the combat aspect of it. which is not as much fun as the freestyle side.

What The Duke said is very true. In the US it would be difficult to have group practice sessions in the park or on the street like they do in Indonesia or China. I get away with it, now and then, by keeping a low profile. But I have  had the police warn me....

In my part of the country video games, fantasy football, bicycles and skateboards are popular. Mixed martial arts are pretty popular also, but not weapons.

I personally like that Freestyle Nunchucks are still an underground activity. Everything else is so over-exposed. It seems once a sport/activity gets popular with the masses, it gets commercialized and loses its soul. I'm hoping that nunchucks are just weird and dangerous enough to attract only  the sincere practitioners.

And freestyle is weird to most observers. I hear it get compared to juggling or baton twirling. And I agree that freestyle incorporates some of those elements. But it is a limited comparison. Nunchucks are one of the few weapons that can be used for "art" or performance, separate from combat. This is the point that many people either don't understand, or do not agree with.

Traditional Martial Arts Nunchaku combat practitioners seem to dislike Freestyle more  than the general public. The public may not like freestyle because they don't understand it, but Martial Artists tend to not approve because they feel it is the "wrong" way to use the weapon. Many view it as silly and useless. Just read some of the comments for freestyle videos on YouTube....

I think since there isn't the same "future" in nunchucking as other sports offer, people tend to leave it behind easily. Activities like skateboarding or basketball have the allure of fame and success. Martial Arts have structure and ranking. People tend to gravitate towards those kinds of sports. Nunchucks offer no chance of fame or rank.

Freestyle is the persuit of the true individual.

People usually fears what they don't understand.
And most likely they will not even try to understand something they fear.

It's curious to see how easily a kid can get a gun, kill someone and then people says "old news, bad for u"
But if someone gets involved into a fight with a nunchaku (or something not common), then you can see people saying something like "OMFG such a danger for our society, come on, let's ban that A.S.A.P.!!"

That's the reason why I automatically say NO to anyone who ask me for help using nunchakus for combat (some of them tries to hide their reasons, for me it's easy to detect what do they want chux for).

You can fight without any reason and it's Ok for people. You can learn deadly combat techniques without any martial ART background and it's Ok for people.
But if you dare to use something like Nunchaku as art / sport, then you'll get a lot of haters behind you in no time.

It us up to us, all of us, to keep freechaku as a pure art that helps us to discover our own skills, creativity and determination.

Maybe someday people will understand. Maybe

YOU are now what keeps freestyle alive.

This means a lot. I'll remember these words.

All right, I'm in. Let's see what Uzumaki says about it.
