well, ive seen a lot of chucks on here, but never saw one which was made with varied woods

im 16, so dont expect an amazing thing from me, and also its my first pair ive ever made, so again, dont expect it to be wicked

i know why too, different woods are different weights :P

but i thought i'd give it a go, and also make a 3 sectioned chuck in the process,
for anyone who doesnt know me, i love woods :D i made an electric guitar from rare woods for GCSE, im making an electric viola for a friend made from a collection of dark woods, so i made sure this chuck suited my skill :D

there is a nice woods shop in yorkshire that does great woods for this kind of thing, and they had a big bargin bag of woods for a fiver, so i took them, had enough wood to make them and a couple other things ive made.

the cord is made from a magical material, created by pixies in the 7th century, this legendary cord is told to give special powers to the person using it, giving them immense strength. (thats all a lie by the way) the truth is its some amazingly strong and slightly springy  cord, given to my dad by my grandmother before she died, and he used it on these, so i do feel pretty privillaged to use it anyway

well, three section staff have little in common with nunchaku, so waiting to get used to nunchaku isn't doing you any good
and three section staff i use to see have a far longer middle stick than your three section chuck, so good luck experimenting with it :thumb:
and have fun

Thats really nice looking. But what about the weight of each section? I was thinking of doing the same thing but i thought it might end up throwing off the center of balance of the whole thing.

I'm thinking that half the reason you're having so much trouble is the length of the cord.  I think if you shortened it to maybe two inches, they'd be much easier to handle, and actually better than normal chucks for body and neck rolls.  Cord absolutely sucks for neck rolls, at least in my experience, and chain's better, becasue it's a little more rigid, but I'd actually considered boring out a piece of wood to cover the cord or chain And seeing how that affected the flow.  I figure as long as it's just long enough to allow full range of motion on the other two sticks, it should be fine, and it'll eliminate the pinching problem I've found since I've started making my own chucks.

imho, the cord is a bit too long for a three-sectional staff, and the sticks too short... but working with different woods, that's damn hard. you need hi-quality wood glue, good wooden planks and, most important, knowing how to cut them...
here, this vid may say a lot about working with multiple wood types... watch starting with 2:51 and try imagining it at a bigger scale!

anyway, a +K for you and your idea, hard work and skill! well done man!  :gogogo :2thumbsup: :clap
