both of them work very well, if i do say so myself.  8-)

this first pair, i went into my backyard with an ax, and went to town to cut these sticks. of course i finished them off with a small hand saw, and drilled the holes, and did some light sanding. i went with the detachable cording method.

this next pair are metal with a chain as you can see. but, there are no bolts or anything up at the top of the stick, making these awesome.

They look good. The top set look a lot like my driftwood set.

The chain runs down the whole tube on the second set?

the first ones are innovative! And have high green credentials!

How is the chain fixed on the 2nd ones? At the bottom ends with the chain running though the entire stick? Are they noisy from the chain rattling around? Nice way of removing the top bolts most chains have.

Nice chucks.

well, it's kinda hard to explain. but at the other end of the tube, there is a thing with threads for a bolt or somthing in it, so the holes on the bottom of the sticks are really small. so what i did was take nylon cord, and tied a super strong knot, after weaving it through a few links in the chain. then wrapped the crap out of it with electrical tape. the chain goes about 6/10th the way down before connecting to the rope. finally at the other end, i tied another super stong knot, so it would stay in place. then wrapped the ends of the stick in electrical tape, to cover up the knots in the rope. i tested it out, and pulled on the stick really hard, and they didn't move a bit.

does that make sence?

DUDE! thats freakin schweet! can t wait to see ya spin em (and to spin en myself  ) i like the cording you did for the wood ones. its pretty cool when you can take em apart and put em back together. this weekend, if your not busy i will pop over and cut you off some of my paracord. i dont think that nylon will hold up for very long with how sharp the inside corner is.  do the metal ones pinch? ive heard that if you have a gap in between the chain and the pipe it can get ya...

To stop the chain pinching you fill the gap around the chain with hot glue, fibreglass or cement. Or wrap tape around the top of the chuck and tuck it inside the metal pipe. :)

For my metal chucks I used a thinner tube, 19mm, and a smaller link chain, combined with rounding off the edges with a rotary tool grindstone and it does not pinch at all.
I think this problem comes from either too much gap between the chain and the tube walls or a chain with too large links so it can't be as flexible.
