well, imho this would then look like figure skating or gymnastics... i feel that by doing so you lose the "free" in the freestyle. let's say one's FREEstyle is a one-handed freestyle or... dunno, chinese traditional plus some aerials. that could be so awesome to watch but when one would have to grade it... it would get let's say a 6 or smth (no ambidexterity or very few tricks)...
besides that, we all practice freestyle as a hobby. as many other freestylers in dancing or rapping or rollerblading, skateboarding etc. if there would be a competition (aka sponsors and prize money and all that goes with it) then we would call ourselves... what? professional freestylers? would there be trainers for this? and if so who? we could be the first generation of trainers in our countries...
besides that we all partake in the CO and the WC. if you lose, well, you know it's a good chance, you train harder for next time, you enjoy the show, see the finals, cheer for the champion. but if you were a pro and let's say putting food on the table came from winning such a competition, that would definitely suck, you'd have some sleepless nights and whatnot...
dunno, really... didn't mean to offend, just... writing down some random thoughts... i voted for freechaku in the olympics, obviously. but more hoping i could go in a goddamn park or beach and practice there and not have the cops on my tail...
sorry again if my post offended anyone, it was not my intention...
to all freestylers everywhere and to you heru for this initiative...
peace!
first off. no offense taken.
now that that is out of the way. freestyle is always FREE-style. a grading system is only necessary to come up with for the olympics, cause, well, its the olympics. in this competition, im sure some would do a practiced routine, but improv will come from the top participants. in fact, improvisation should be included in the grading, under overall performance. good call.
and there are of course hobbyists, but this would be for those of us who wish to gain that motivation to train that only comes from the prospect of being the best. i know that for me, battles and tourneys are incredible motivators for honing my craft. with this, its that next level, not only of competition, but of exposure. exposure!
as far as regional laws against nunchaku, again i say to do what ever you can think of to change that. action! but it must be backed by those in your region. a petition signed by a bunch of americans to change the laws in romania would not have all that much weight you know?
as far as professional freestyler, with sponsors to pay me to train? are you kidding me? that would be my dream! no work, no school, just all the time i need to really delve into freestyle training? man, what a holy grail. i dont care if there are better than me. with all day, every day to train, i would have all the time i needed to become something amazing. same with everyone here who loves this art. if we were able to train in this way, to dedicate our productive hours of the day to simply getting better, you would progress leaps and bounds and could be a significant challenger in a year. i am just barely above a year, with not nearly that much time to practice, and i have already reached a level i did not think i could get to.
idk, i guess we are of a different mind and there is nothing wrong with that. i appreciate your help in this endeavor.
