i wish we could go petition on legalizing nunchaku itself

this i believe would have to be started by someone in the country in question, and have the backing by people in that country to have weight. i guess living in a city that does not limit my chux use, the olympics was a loftier goal in my thoughts.

yayu. i have thought of this exact thing. we will need a grading system to present.

in my mind there are two main aspects of freechaku

aesthetics

technicality

now we break it down enough, but not too much, as an overwhelming, comprehensive scoring system i dont think would do us well. so lets base it off of a 10 point total system.

under technicality we have- move difficulty, move variance, and fluidity

move difficulty is somewhat in the eye of the beholder, but most stuff is obviously difficult or obviously not difficult.

move variance is a positive way of saying little repetition (which is in a negative. negative and positive not as in good or bad)

fluidity would be a judgment on whether the performer got tripped up or not. accidental chain catches and stuff like like. not to mean that there will be no bounces or stuff, just not getting tripped up.

under aesthetics we have- footwork and overall performance

footwork is pretty self explanitory. are you stuck in one spot the whole time, or are you making use of the whole floor for your performance

overall performance would include how combos are set up, and if they look good together. if the performer looks loose and in the zone, or uptight and rigid.

so with these five categories of grading, each on a 1-10, the average would be the total score

example: i give a performance and the uk judge gives me a:

move variance: 8
move difficulty: 8.5
fluidity: 7
footwork:7
overall performance: 8

my total score from the uk judge would be a 7.7

please add to the discussion of a scoring system and remember to not make it too limiting or to overwhelming.

any thoughts?

any thoughts?

well, imho this would then look like figure skating or gymnastics... i feel that by doing so you lose the "free" in the freestyle. let's say one's FREEstyle is a one-handed freestyle or... dunno, chinese traditional plus some aerials. that could be so awesome to watch but when one would have to grade it... it would get let's say a 6 or smth (no ambidexterity or very few tricks)...
besides that, we all practice freestyle as a hobby. as many other freestylers in dancing or rapping or rollerblading, skateboarding etc. if there would be a competition (aka sponsors and prize money and all that goes with it) then we would call ourselves... what? professional freestylers? would there be trainers for this? and if so who? we could be the first generation of trainers in our countries...
besides that we all partake in the CO and the WC. if you lose, well, you know it's a good chance, you train harder for next time, you enjoy the show, see the finals, cheer for the champion. but if you were a pro and let's say putting food on the table came from winning such a competition, that would definitely suck, you'd have some sleepless nights and whatnot...

dunno, really... didn't mean to offend, just... writing down some random thoughts... i voted for freechaku in the olympics, obviously. but more hoping i could go in a goddamn park or beach and practice there and not have the cops on my tail...

sorry again if my post offended anyone, it was not my intention...

:respect: to all freestylers everywhere and  :respect: to you heru for this initiative...

peace!

first off. no offense taken.

now that that is out of the way. freestyle is always FREE-style. a grading system is only necessary to come up with for the olympics, cause, well, its the olympics. in this competition, im sure some would do a practiced routine, but improv will come from the top participants. in fact, improvisation should be included in the grading, under overall performance. good call.

and there are of course hobbyists, but this would be for those of us who wish to gain that motivation to train that only comes from the prospect of being the best. i know that for me, battles and tourneys are incredible motivators for honing my craft. with this, its that next level, not only of competition, but of exposure. exposure!

as far as regional laws against nunchaku, again i say to do what ever you can think of to change that. action! but it must be backed by those in your region. a petition signed by a bunch of americans to change the laws in romania would not have all that much weight you know?

as far as professional freestyler, with sponsors to pay me to train? are you kidding me? that would be my dream! no work, no school, just all the time i need to really delve into freestyle training? man, what a holy grail. i dont care if there are better than me. with all day, every day to train, i would have all the time i needed to become something amazing. same with everyone here who loves this art. if we were able to train in this way, to dedicate our productive hours of the day to simply getting better, you would progress leaps and bounds and could be a significant challenger in a year. i am just barely above a year, with not nearly that much time to practice, and i have already reached a level i did not think i could get to.

idk, i guess we are of a different mind and there is nothing wrong with that. i appreciate your help in this endeavor.

heck, of course this would be amazing... you bet i would do anything possible to get payed to freestyle! i can hardly find the time to do it working from 8 to 6 + finishing my studies and all...
i'm still pretty fresh to this and i usually tend to see the dark half first.
but, before the olympics... i think recognition as a sport is mandatory. we could then hold local competitions and whatnot, rollerblading and skateboarding-style.

off-topic... i hope to have the time to train to be half as good as you after 1 year...

peace!

i'd say speed, but its not always a defining factor with freestyle and would probably tie in with move difficulty..

i would definitely compete tho  :-)

but looking back to that weird newspaper article, this seems like a self fulfilling prophecy  :ninja:
Nunchucka mutha fucka.

I signed it yesterday, #59.  I'm no Olympian though...  :doh

In the Bible it says that during the end of days Death, War, Famine and Pestilence will ride together. Four versus one seems unfair. In order to be fair I will only use one arm.
