Shortening my chain

Hello, this is my first time posting on the forums. I spend most of my time just lurking and learning, but I have a question now that you folks might be able to help me with.

I have a pair of woodalls black walnut chux with a 7 link chain and a ball bearing connection. I'm interested in modifying them by shortening the chain to 3 or 4 links, and I want to do it right and carefully so i dont break my nunchaku. Does anyone have advice on how to do this? I have tried tapping out the pin on one side of the chux but have been unsuccessful so far. Do i have to remove the sticks from the ball bearings alltogether to do this? I have the tools avaliable to cut the chain to the length i want but i need to disconnect  them first, so how do I get that pin out of there?

Hello! Welcome to the forum bro! 

you can cut the chains by using two plies.. putting the two pliers inside the chain's hole.. then stretch the piers.. the chain's mouth will open.

bringing it back will requires you to use a pliers. just doing the opposite on how you opened them

Does your ballbearing cylinder that locks the chain look exactly like that one ??



If yes, try to remove the spring pin, by hitting it with a steel pin and a hammer.
Remove the useless chain-links with a pliers or a disc grinder, put the chain
into the slot of the cylinder again and return the spring pin into the hole.

well i tried knocking the pin out with a hammer and a small pin but it dosent seem to want to bulge, i've tried tapping it from both sides. trying to cut the chains open with the pliers is not giving me any more progress,  i think the links are welded together, i cant even distort them. Its all starting to give me a headache.

ok, i figured it out. Got these badboys down to 4 links, working out very well. I now have a 14 inch pair with 4 links, a 12 inch pair with 7, and an 8 inch pair with 11 links.  One for every mood now... was feeling kind of short with 2 7-link pairs and no shorties. Thanks for the help.
