Just make sure the cord is pinched between the bottom of the hole and the pin.

Agreed. I'll try that. So the cord is connected on the screw and hangs there? Is that how you get control?

The control came from the short cord, and the relation of balance between each stick. In the end, the shorter the rope the more control you get (of course the control is improve with balance)
