I recently ordered Graphite nunchucks and Wax Wood nunchucks from Sakura Battleground in Canton, Ohio. I received the order in 11 days, with both chucks in good condition.
Both nunchucks were produced by Century and were labeled as such.
Red Graphite Corded Nunchaku.....$ 17.21 :
These nunchucks are 11 3/4" ( 30 cm ) long, with a 1" to 1.25" taper. The chuck is a wood core with a graphite coating. The top end of the nunchuck is not coated with graphite, and the hole in the wood core is raw and rough. So rough, in fact, that after just a few spins, the nylon cord began to fray noticeably. Although I would have liked the top end to be finished better, I am confident that some sandpaper and paint will smooth this out.
These nunchucks weigh 8.2 oz. ( 232 grams ) with a 5 gram difference between sticks. The shape of the chucks, as well as the finish on the graphite coating, is smooth and nice to hold, almost like fiberglass. The graphite shell is very hard, and is quite loud when the sticks strike each other. I haven't dropped them on any hard floors or hit anything with them, so I can't attest to their durability yet. I will follow up in a few months with how well the chucks lasted.
White Waxwood Corded Nunchaku....$12.04 :
These are octogon and measure 12 inches ( 30.6 cm ) and have a 1" to 1 1/8" taper. The centering of the holes is acceptable, but not perfect. These nunchucks have a nice, smooth finish. Some kind of filler was used by the manufacturer to repair a few very small imperfections in the waxwood.
The chucks weigh 9.6 oz. ( 273 grams ) with a 3 gram difference between sticks. Waxwood seems to have a medium-soft plastic feel to it. All in all, they seem pretty well made, and spin nicely.
Sakura Battleground was easy to order from, sent me confirmations and a tracking number, and got it to me in less than two weeks. When I emailed them inquiring about the construction of the graphite nunchucks, I received an answer the next day. The shipping cost for my order was $8.50.
