If you could pic 3 woods from this list of wood you would want your chux made from what would be your 3?

Blood wood
Jatoba
Canary
Leopard
Sapele(mahogany)
Padauk
Purpleheart
Spanish Cedar
Wenge
Zebra
Curly Maple

Going to buy some dowels and make some more..Can't decide which 3.

personally i'd recommend padauk, zebra-wood and purpleheart out of all of these.

never ever use blood wood, its porous, brittle and light compared to its mass. which sucks because it looks awesome.

Def. Jatoba and Purpleheart!

Zebra and Padouk are very light, but also good for chux.

So it will depend on if you will go light or a lil more heavy!

For the optical aspect: I like the Curly Maple very much, but never tried!

Hi!
Maple if you can get dense stuff.
jatoba is great!
wenge is great too and is pretty heavy. i have a pair of wenge that i got in 1980 and have been breaking things and dropping them for all that time

Sorry to say, but the only one I even like in that list is the mahogany. In my opinion, the best three woods I would pick would be....

*White Oak - because its strong, heavy, and durable. its also very common and traditional

*Cherrywood - Its not quite as strong as oak and maple, but it looks nice and its very practical...and once again common

*Ebony - not so common  but by far the best I think. strong, heavy, durable, beautiful, and with the right finish, can last almost forever!

out of the ones you listed, I'd pick the cirly maple, mahogany, and zebrawood. I agree with matt-chez, bloodwood isn't a good idea. I've owned many things made of zebrawood and I can say its a good option because you don't have to comprmise beauty for strength and durablity

    • The Question and The Answer
I got some Jatoba and Purpleheart prochux that I love to death so I have to have them two and hmmmm I can see zebrawood making a pretty cool pair of chucks. They would have an authentic look to them with the lines.

In my humble opinion, the ever so cheap and easy to acquire oak chux are the best... but that's just me :)
