Hey everyone!  I recently purchased 2 Ironwood Prochux from Master Lee Barden and I thought I should shoot a review of it and put it on Youtube.  As far as I know, this is the only YT review of it, and it is kinda lengthy so I summed everything up in the description:

Like I said, it's pretty long, but I hope I did Prochux justice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1-LNekZZDM&list=UUb8sn-XpUXocT_CB7grQ1tg&index=1&feature=plcp

Summation
-Octagonal Ironwood so it's really strong. There are some MINOR chips from my own doing after VICIOUSLY releasing them into the ground or wall. This only shows how strong the wood is, but you can choose any wood you want.
-Mine are medium-light weight, but weight depends on the wood.
-1 inch string allows for very good control.
-Balance point on each stick where the string is attached to the wood. This allows for amazing control of the chuck, which allows for easy, flowing movements. Also, because the string is attached to the balance point on both the sticks, it's like you're controlling the other end of the stick as well. This allows for easy aerials and allows you to really emphasize flow, which was why the Penchaku was invented- to emphasize the Lissajous curve, and incorporate their flow into the martial arts of Lissajous-do
-Master craftsmanship. Master Lee Barden makes them by hand, to your specifications. There are NO abnormalities to my Prochux. The wood is beautifully made and crafted. No splinters, cracks, etc.

Get them or do not get them?
- Yes! Get them! The craftsmanship, the balance, the control makes for a VERY good chuck! The one inch string may be a turnoff to some, but as a martial artist and a freestylist, it is VERY important to experience EVERYTHING and take what you like and incorporate it into something that is truly yours and unique- your style of freestyle.
- Also get them so you can have a pair, even if you do not like them. Look at the Dolans Chuck. Mr. Dolan never passed on his secret to nunchaku making. What if Master Lee Barden never passes down method of creating the Prochux? You do not want to regret never owning one.

My Ironwood Prochux.  Very nice craftsmanship.  No abnormalities, smooth wood.  I actually smelt it too, and it smelled really nice and a little sweet actually.

Supreme balance allows for maximum control.

Final Rating
- 10/10
- I cannot saying anything bad about this the Prochux itself. Whether or not you think it will fit your style of freestyle is up to you, but the chuck itself is amazing.

Get your Prochux here:
prochux.com

Make sure to email Master Lee Barden about purchasing your Prochux, and if you have any specifications as to size, wood type, etc.  He is a very nice man and very accommodating.
Feel.

-Aren't penchaku and prochux the exact same thing, but with different names?
-Don't homemade chucks of any size/shape or hole drill length have a balancing point in the exact area (give or take an inch or two)?
-If Lee doesn't teach anyone how to make prochux... then it doesn't really matter, because anyone with a drill press can make round ones... and anything with a drill press and a way to make octagon diameter can make them exact. It's just two equal weighted sticks of wood with a 3" hole down the center, a piece of rope and a length of brass coat hanger.
-"master cratsmanship" A friend of mine gave me a pair or ironwood ones he had... and one of the holes wasn't centered... and some of the wood was burned from the lathing/sanding process.

Not bashing... just making sure this is fair.

No problem!  I'm happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability, so here we go!  All my answers are of my own opinion of course, and not of Master Lee Bardens!

1)  To my knowledge, Master Lee Barden refined the Penchaku and renamed his creation the Prochux.  I can't find my original source at the moment, and being that I did find this on the internet, there is a possibility I may be wrong.

2) Yes, I experimented this with my DIYs, depending on where you place the hole on each stick, and how even they are in comparison to each other, there is a balance point.  Although, it can be harder to find if your chuck was not drilled evenly.  The thing is, I've easily balanced my Prochux on the end of a knife.  This is something I cannot do with a DIY.

3)  It's not as simple as that, I'm not entirely sure how Master Lee Barden makes the Prochux because I don't want to cut mine open, but if I'm not mistaken, I've read somewhere that the rope is actually clamped at the balance point (may or may not be wrong).  Refer here for some other hypotheses as to how they are made:

4)  I'm sorry about that, but not everything is perfect.  In all my review videos, I always emphasize that if something isn't to standard, then return it.  I've only seen one other review that showed some burnt wood, but the guy ended up saying even with the burnt wood, the Prochux were still great.

It is clamped....be sure!!!

Master Lee is producing very nice chucks...whether you like them or not is your pair of shoes!

I have several very nice sticks waiting for connection....drilled, sanded... BUT I would love them to be exactly like the ProChucks....and unless I cannot do it this way....each one of the sticks will stay divided...

The connection of the PCs ist flawless!!! Believe it or not!

At least I like it best!

Clamped and Melted.  Clamped was old style, melted is now and forever.  clamping is a bummer to do.
The more I see the less I know, the more I like to let it go!

Excellent guide, this helped me to decide to buy a pair of prochux! I wen't with the purple heart so I'm expecting them to be a tad bit lighter than ironwood would be, and yeah, thanks mate!
I'll probably make a review about the purple heart variety of hardwood, posting how much the weigh and such.
