I stumbled upon a custom competition weapon site, www.bukiyuushuu.com

Their stuff looks nice, but pricey. I was wondering if anyone has bought anything from there, and what their experiences were.

It also looks like they pretty much just have one version of all their products, but decorate them differently. :|

My boys have those weapons, the karate school only sells them.  They sell alot of them, we have over 600 students in the school they go to. The kids love them...I got to say they are better looking than the other weapons the school use to sell...i think it was something force.  My kids have been doing karate for a long time now and used alot of weapons. They guys are new i think... my kids sensei knows the owner from tournaments i think.  Sensei says they are coming out with new stuff all the time...i know i just paid for flying kamas for the boys already.

The site looks like it was designed by an 8 year old, has the grammar of such, and everything is ridiculously expensive. Also, $20 to slap a "Your name" decal on? Laughable. I would never consider such a site.

Well, to be fair, it is a small, family-run business. So they can't have awesome Wal-Martlike prices like Century does. But even so, the prices are very steep.

I asked my boys Sensei today why he uses and sells only these weapons and not others.  He said the reason he uses and sells these weapons are because in his opinion they are the best. He says that the kamas and Bo’s are the best quality he has ever seen. He said you definitely pay for them, but tournament weapons are always expensive.  He said they are much lighter and better balanced for his team to use in competition. He said he has used XMA, goshikata and g-force weapons but he likes these best.

That made me feel a little better, I value his and his family’s opinion. They have been in the martial arts for over 35 years.  He said he wishes he had these kinds of weapons when he was on Team Paul Mitchell.

All this negative talk was making me feel like me and the kids got ripped off, now after talking to sensei, I know I got what I paid for.

Can someone tell me who makes good competition Nunchucks for a 9 year old?

Thanks

Well what we say around here is that it's all about preference. For example, your kid's Sensei says those weapons from that site are the best, but I remember talking to a TKD instructor about what would be the best and he said the "traditional" 7 linked nunchucks are. It's all up to what you like and who would you listen to. If your kids are comfortable with what their Sensei suggests then it shouldn't be a problem for them. Out of personal experience though, I've made nunchucks for little kids which in my opinion is a good idea. This way you can get in specifics done without sending them back if there's a problem.

And to further confuse you, here's a quote from Choson Sensei  :-D
Quote from: Choson Sense
You should not concern yourself with custom made Nuncghaku! Rather, get good at whatever because when your not prepared and the only weapon is not cutomized, you should still be able to preform techniques effectively. I hope that helps.

My conclusion; if money is not an option, experiment
