This is how I triple strung my heavy wooden 14". Worked extremely well for me.

anyone able to tell me if this tie-off will work with a double string instead of a triple?

im wonderiing if the lack of another loop will cause it not to hold its position as well

If you only put two strings, the two ends of the cord will be in the same stick, so it will have less string to secure it.

You can try, but for precaution, test it with full force in a big area, where you cant harm anything or anybody

I don't think it would work well with two strings. That's how I tried to string them at first but found it was easier with just three.

an update: i just went to home depot and got some wooden rods and made some chux

i had a problem when i got home though, i didnt have a bit large enough to allow 2 loops D:

with a little tinkering and remembering the guide for tieing off without a knot i was able to do something im shocked hasnt been mentioned here:

I created a single loop connection.

pic:

it holds very well, ive yanked and beat on it and its not coming loose. however im not sure how long it will last, im guessing it will breakt he string faster than having it loop back for 2 strings, ill probably buy a bit this next week and change this to the traditional method or a 3 string setup, but this is working great for now :)

just an idea id throw in here. if you could attack the string into it for the weight of wood but not the pain use lots of smaller dowls put together like split stick for drumms.

Matt uses single cord himself for more speed, I'm not one to recommend it since it's not as durable as triple. But you seem like a smart enough dude that would know when his cord would snap.

Pouring wax around the rim and cord would help with the fraying if you haven't given that a try.
