so, seventh heaven's recent post led me to search online for dowels (with being so internet intensive, im surprised i did not think of this earlier). i came across this site that has some exotic wood dowels. they are usually over and inch diameter, but can be sanded down im sure.

Siik, thats what I like to see. We'll all be Woodalls in no time :-P. Next step is to plant a seed to grow into a tree...wait 60 years then make some chux :thumb:

haha idk about that. those guys at woodalls are really masters of thier craft and know what they do inside and out. even though i will be getting some of these dowels, i will still bring my hard earned (snicker) cash to woodalls when i can. an exotic wood dowel does not automatically make someone a master chux maker....but it sure makes what can be done at home that much better!

Seems like a huge waste of money because you have to buy two dowels to make a set since they're only like 20" each.

Nice find Heru. 1 3/8" seems the standard which I suppose is aceptable. I mean adjusting from a 1" to 1 3/8 shouldn't be an issue at all.

I would really like a good review on these guys since the place 7th mentioned is in canada(no offense to canada, there are just potential shipping issues) and isn't really on our "to buy from list" yet.

Getting some nice wood and making simple dowel chucks is exactly what I'm doing untill I get some woodalls. Everyday my self control breaks down a little and sooner or later I'm going to crack and just drop my hard earned snicker cash on them. But untill then I'm more than satisfied with my homemades.

just imagine accidently kill your dog with a chuck blow to the head burying it and planting a verawood tree on the grave site and 2 generations later your grandkids make their own chucks out of the tree. with your dogs CHONSP in it. :lmfao:

some woods looked like they were sized to 12 inches. they also say to contact them if they dont have the dimensions your looking for, that being said the lignum vitae looks to cost only $2.75 for a 12 inch section and its on the top of woodalls durabilty chart. that has to be a typo....

Yeah, Im sticking with Precision Strikes and Woodalls. I dont have the skill to make the quality chucks that I want. Ive been wanting some GOD and tiger maples for a while. Im also dying to try the new PS Proditionals.

i just called the guy and he says the price on the site if for 1x1x12 inches if for square dowels. but for 1.38x18 inches of lignum vitae in dowel form is 7 dollars so 14 bucks for a standard pair. im gonna give these a go +some other woods. ill put a review up when im done.
